Titanic centenary celebrations launch cancelled in Colne because of ice

AN EVENT to launch a leaflet packed with information about events to celebrate the centenary of the Titanic has been cancelled - because of the ice.

In a cruel twist of fate the event at the Lancashire Museum, in Church Street, Colne, has been delayed for around a week because of the treacherous conditions.

The ship sank on its maiden voyage in 1912, from Southampton to New York, after hitting an iceberg.

RMS Titanic has iconic connections in East Lancashire, with the ship’s bandmaster Wallace Hartley, who carried on playing while the ship sank, from Colne.

The Titanic leaflet will highlight the many events being held in Colne to mark the centenary.
