Rossendale man hit in row over £100 debt

AN ex-HGV driver attacked a man over a £100 debt — but the victim wasn’t the one who owed the cash, Burnley magistrates heard.

Raymond Stansfield, 38, hit Christopher Rothwell in front of the victim’s partner and child.

Mr Rothwell’s ‘brother-in-law’ Andrew Kyle was said to be the one who owed money to the defendant.

The victim had been in a car with his partner Michaela Kyle and Mr Kyle, when Stansfield walked over to the vehicle and started shouting.

Laura Heywood, for Stansfield, said Andrew Kyle owed him £100.

The defendant saw Mr Kyle, decided to go and speak to him and a row followed.

The defendant, of Edgeside Lane, Waterfoot, had denied assault by beating and using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour at Bacup, last September 24, but had been convicted after a trial.

He was given a 12 month community order and must pay £100 compensation, £100 costs and do 60 hours’ unpaid work.

A 12 month restraining order, was also imposed to keep him away from the victim.
