Couple led to safety after early hours blaze at Colne home

A COUPLE were led to safety by firefighters after a kitchen fire left their home in Colne smokelogged early this morning.

Fire chiefs say a grill pan had been left on before the pair, a man aged 31 and a woman aged 20, went to sleep at the house in William Street.

The couple, who were trapped in a back bedroom, were led to safety by a firefighter wearing breathing apparatus.

Specialist ventilation equipment was used to disperse smoke from ground and first floor rooms during the incident, which was first reported just before 3.40am on Sunday.

Paramedics gave first aid to the couple at the scene but they each refused hospital treatment.
