Colne Gala ‘one of the best ever’

FAMILIES turned out in their droves for the variety of fun-packed activities at the annual Colne Gala.

Thousands of adults and children lined the town’s streets to catch a glimpse of a host of weird and wonderful floats in Saturday’s procession.

And hundreds more packed inside Holt House stadium, in Harrison Drive, to witness daredevil BMX riders perform some extreme stunts later on.

Organisers hailed the event a huge success despite the wet weather, describing it as “one of the best ever.”

Crowds of people headed to Holt House where there was a funfair and donkey rides on offer as well as a tug-of-war.

The gala culminated in a performance by comedy car act Fingle Dingle, who had spectators in fits of laughter.

Donald Leaver, who helped co-ordinate the event, said: “Last year was a bit of a washout, but this year we did really well.

“The Fingle Dingle comedy car went down a storm and everyone loved it.”

In the procession the Lancashire Telegraph trophy went to the Nationwide ACR, who also won in the trade and industry category.

"In the procession the Lancashire Telegraph trophy went to the Nationwide ACR"...

For what exactly?? It certainly wasn't best float as they only drove three vans through decorated with a couple of balloons!! Ans as for the "weird and wonderful floats"... there were only two or three!! The rest were just cars driven by grumpy gits and a few of the usual baton twirlers. As for "one of the best ever"... I remember as a child the precession being much better, at least 20 floats some years!!
