A CRACKDOWN has been launched by police over teenagers tampering or using other people's passports to trick their way into pubs and clubs.

Police said door staff and landlords in Colne and West Craven have handed in a number of passports and driving licences this year.

PCSO Ivan Hartley represents police on the Pub Watch panel and has received reports teenagers using friends passports or Driving Licence or altering their own to trick their way in to pubs and clubs.

Police have warned anyone caught tampering with their or using others passports and driving licences could face up to 10 years behind bars.

PC Nigel Keates said: "Messing with identity documents or using others ID is a serious business.

"When I investigate often the genuine owner of the ID suddenly recalls having it stolen, probably to take the heat off them.

"Unfortunately this opens up a whole new can of worms for their soon to become ex friend.

"Theft or burglary to add to fraud and document offences."

Police have also warned a conviction or caution for Fraud Act or Document Act offences will affect employment prospects.

Officers are trying to make people aware that it’s illegal and could be sent to crown court and face a maximum prison sentence of 10 years.
