A CAR was seized after it was caught being driven at high speed.

Police said the white Mercedes AMG had been driving in an ‘anti-social manner’ around the Colne Road area of Burnley over the past two nights.

Officers said the car had ‘failed to stop for them and made off at high-speed on numerous occasions.’

But in the early hours of Sunday morning, the vehicle was successfully ‘stung’ by officers and has since been removed from the road.

A Lancashire police spokesman said the driver was reported for an ‘offence’ and will be summoned to court.

The spokesman said: “This was a car that had been making off from police during the week at a high speed.

“In the early hours of Sunday morning, the automatic number plate recognition was triggered and patrols went to the Colne Road area of Burnley.

“A short time later, a Mercedes AMG was discovered with its driver in it. The car has since been removed from the road.

“The driver of the car has been reported for an offence and will be summoned to court.”

Burnley and Padiham Police said on Facebook that the driver had ‘put themselves and other road users at risk’.

They said: “Over the past two nights, this vehicle has been seen driving in an anti social manner and has failed to stop for police, making off at high speed on numerous occasions.

“This ultimately puts themselves, but more importantly, other road users at risk. This has taken place mainly around the Colne Road area and further afield.

“In the early hours of this morning, the vehicle was successfully “stung” by #team5 officers and has since been removed from the road.”
