FLAMBOYANT telly star Laurence Llewelyn Bowen has given his seal of approval to a new 1940s themed tea rooms.

The interior designer, who made his name on the 1990s DIY reality show Changing Rooms praised the new Boundary Mill venue Mrs B's.

Guests attending the first service at the Colne retail outlet enjoyed traditional afternoon tea followed by the opportunity to chat with the TV star.

The self-proclaimed ‘homestyle consultant’ hosted the opening welcoming more than 50 people.

Mr Llewelyn Bowen said: “It was a really successful afternoon, the service was a triumph.

“The level of attention to detail in the service, down to the way the servers were dressed, was exceptional and perfectly in keeping with the tea room’s aesthetic.

“This is the perfect environment for Mrs B’s because it is like a throw back to the golden age of retail.”

Chrissy Holt, who was dining with her daughter Hermione said she had really enjoyed the afternoon.

She said: "It really has been very good.

“My daughter usually takes me out for the afternoon so I booked this for us as a treat.

“The ambiance is wonderful and the pastries and sandwiches were delightful.

“Lawrence was lovely. We have a lot in common so we had a lot to talk about.

Manager Craig Borrill said: “This first sitting has been really successful.

“From the beginning we have always had an image of how we want the experience to be for our diners.

“We put emphasis on traditional methods and high service to offer the authentic afternoon tea service and I think it really does the opulent surroundings justice.”

Following the afternoon tea, Mr Llewelyn Bowen spent an hour in the store meeting shoppers and promoting his cutlery line.
