A 22-YEAR-OLD man told his pregnant partner to get back the £50 deposit they had paid on a pram because he had no money for tobacco.

Blackburn magistrates heard the previous night Jake Marren had stabbed two knives into a kitchen worktop when he ran out of alcohol and told his partner if she was not pregnant one of the knives would be for her and the other for him.

Marren, of Belgrave Road, Colne, pleaded guilty to assaulting Katie Spencer by putting her in fear of violence. He was sentenced to 16 weeks in custody suspended for 18 months with a 24 day rehabilitation activity requirement and fined £50 with £115 victim surcharge.

Tracey Yates, prosecuting, said the offence put Marren in breach of a suspended prison sentence order imposed for a previous assault on Miss Spencer.

The latest offence was committed when Miss Spencer was three months pregnant.

During the incident she asked him why were they having the baby and he replied; "Go and kill it then."

Mark Williams, defending, said there had been no actual violence although it had clearly been a frightening incident.

"She didn't want the prosecution to go ahead but they are no longer together," said Mr Williams.
