AN INVESTIGATION has been launched after potentially hazardous waste was allegedly illegally fly-tipped at a farm in Colne.

Environment Agency staff and police have spent more than 36 hours dealing with the incident at Hubbs House Farm, in Southfield Lane, Colne, and are set to monitor the situation over the weekend.

An area of land had been sealed off yesterday to allow investigation work to be carried out but the cordon has since been removed. The waste has now been removed.

It is believed a man has been questioned in connection with the incident.

A spokesman for the Environment Agency said: “We are investigating reports of waste being illegally disposed of on land in Colne.

“The Environment Agency has worked with partners to reduce any risks from the site and our officers will continue to monitor the situation over the weekend.”

Police were made aware of the incident and were offering support to the Environment Agency.

A spokesman said: “At 2.30pm on Thursday the Environment Agency made us aware of potentially hazardous waste at a farm, off Southfield Lane, Colne. We have attended and kept an eye on the scene overnight. Our officers have been at the scene supporting the Environment Agency today.”Call police on 101 on with information.
