UPSET residents have been left angered after ‘thoughtless’ vandals targeted town centre flower planters.

Flowerbeds at Colne Railway Station were damaged yesterday morning with soil and flowers dumped on the floor.

The planters created by Colne in Bloom, a team of volunteers, who operate in the town.

Lee Dobson, who works for G4S Secure Solutions, found the damage when he arrived at the railway station at 6am.

The 33-year-old from Colne said: “I tried my best to replant the beds.

“The Colne in Bloom team make these areas look beautiful.

“These people do it for nothing.

“To think some people in the town could wreck the hard work makes your blood boil.

“There’s no place for this childish behaviour in our town.”

Cllr Dorothy Lord, chairman of Colne in Bloom said she could not understand why people vandalise the flowers.

She said: “This has been our best year yet, the flowers this summer have been absolutely stunning.

“It was very disappointing to see this, people locally are very upset about it.

“It’s not often we get any damage but when we do they do it in style.

“I just do not understand why people would do this, there is no point.

“So many people appreciate the work we do.”

Volunteers went down to the flowerbed yesterday to try and fix the damage.

Earlier this year there was an attempted break in at the Colne In Bloom shed in the grounds of Primet Community Centre and a door was damaged.
