A POLICE amnesty for people to hand in knives has been extended by a further week.

The week-long even had seen a number of weapons handed in at special drop-off points in Blackburn, Burnley, Colne and Chorley..

And because of the initial success of the amnesty, officers have decided to extend it.

A police spokesman said: “We’re extending our knife surrender for another week. Hand in your knives anonymously and without any repercussions in our special bins at Blackpool, Burnley, Preston, Skelmersdale, Morecambe, Greenbank, Blackburn, Chorley, Fleetwood and Colne.”

Ch Insp Mark Baines added: “Too many families have been affected by knife crime with even one person being stabbed being one too many.

“The consequences of carrying and using a knife can be devastating and potentially life-threatening.

“I would appeal directly to people that if you know someone who is carrying a knife, don’t keep silent. Report it.”
