A COLNE school is planning to extend the length of its day.

Park High School has already trialled the extension with year 11 students to give them chance to work on homework and revision programmes.

Now school bosses are planning to introduce it for all students from September.

It means from Monday to Thursday school will begin at 8.40am and end at 3.40pm and on Friday at 2.40pm.

In a letter to parents headteacher Dr Paul Parkin said the feedback after the trial was 'overwhelmingly positive'.

He said: "The change to length of the school day on the first four days of the week will enable us to provide an additional one hour lesson to support all students completing their homework and personal revision programmes.

"These changes will reduce the amount of homework students need to complete at home, meaning our students will have a healthy balance of focussed study and quality family time.

"Prep time is part of a new initiative we are launching next year called 'the best I can be'.

"Students will be receiving additional support to develop their independent learning skills and resilience which we believe are essential to ensure their future success and well-being."

Students will continue to have five lessons each day in addition to the new prep time.

The school bus timetable will also change to reflect it. A parent consultation evening on the changes will be held on Thursday, May 2, from 6pm at the Venables Avenue school.
