DETECTIVES investigating the gang rape of a woman in Colne are appealing for the driver of car scene in the area to come forward.

The attack happened when a 23-year-old woman was dragged in to an alleyway off Tennyson Road and assaulted by up to four men at around 11pm on February 6.

Detectives want to trace a dark coloured BMW one series which was seen driving along Tennyson Road having come from Ruskin Avenue direction at around 10.50pm on the same night.

Officers have said there is no suggestion that anyone in the car was involved in the incident, however they want to speak to the driver as a potential witness.

A police spokesman said: "The vehicle may belong to someone who lives in the area or possibly someone visiting a property in that area. We would ask the driver or anyone with any information to contact police on 101 quoting log number 1523 of 6th February."

One of the suspects is is described as dark skinned and about 6ft tall. Another is described as chubby. All the men were wearing hats and one may have been wearing a waterproof coat.

The victim described some of the men as speaking with foreign accents.
