A STAR Wars-mad dad from Colne has revealed how happy he is with the Jedi-themed name he gave his son.
Speaking following the release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, the first film from the franchise in 10 years, Craig McBeth has named his son Anekin Lucas Maximus McBeth after the Anakin Skywalker, who later became the Sith Lord Darth Vader.
The Lucas refers to the films’ creator George Lucas.
Mr McBeth described his six-year-old son as a ‘good Jedi’ and said he hopes the name will take his son on to great things in the future.
Mr McBeth, managing director at McBeth Digital Publishing in Colne, said: “His mother, my ex wife, and I had already had our first child, Holly, who we had been expecting to be a boy.
“We had the name Lucas ready for her, but she turned out to be a girl.
“By the time Regene fell pregnant with Anekin, we had become a little tired of the name Lucas and as it happens we had been watching Star Wars when it occurred to us that Anekin was a cool name.
“We already had the name Lucas so kept that, and in keeping with the majestic grandiose names, we chose Maximus as his third name as we both like Gladiator too and think it is another great name.
“We did think that he might perhaps get picked on at school, but our thoughts were that once he had left, he would have a super cool name.
“And bearing in mind there are plenty of celebrities naming their children stranger names than Anekin.
“I think it’s quite a cute name and sounds good.
“With a name like that we’re sure he will become quite memorable, but at the moment he is a good Jedi and not showing any traits of turning to the dark side.”
Mr McBeth said he had not forced his love of Star Wars on Anekin, who attends Park Primary School in Colne, but fortunately it turns out that he liked it anyway.
“While we don’t force the whole Star Wars thing on him, he does enjoy it and obviously receives a number of Star Wars related presents.
“But all in all I think we’re all really happy with the name and and it’s rare we get any negative comments about it,” he added.
