A PENSIONER has had money taken from her purse following an elderly persons' lunch in Colne.

Three women targeted pensioners leaving the lunch at a community centre yesterday afternoon (Tues) asking them for donations for a class for deaf children.

A police spokesperson said: "The women used what is thought to be a bogus charity card and engaged the pensioners in conversation before hugging the victim. It appears that at this point the money has been taken from the purse."

The women are described as being eastern European and speaking in broken English. One was small and dainty and a taller one is described as being quite heavily built. There may also be a red car involved.

Police have issued a warning to pensioners attending a lunch, bingo or other event over the coming weeks, advising them not to give money to anyone that they do not know, and not to carry large amounts of money with them.

If you have any information relating to the incident please contact the police on 101.
