ROO the chihuahua faced a bleak future when he was born with just his hind legs.

But the little fella stunned animal lovers at his rescue centre by hopping around on his hind legs — like a kangaroo.

They want inventive East Lancastrians to design him some wheels.

Paula Knowles, 48, has contacted Noel Fitzpatrick, BBC One’s Bionic Vet, and vets in America over a wheeled harness for the front of Roo’s body.

But she says Roo is so mobile that maybe all he needs is a local engineer to create a set of bespoke wheels.

She said: “We are looking for a local company to help us find a set of wheels.

“He does not need medical stuff like leg extensions as he copes very well. He is a little ruffian.

“He just needs some wheels and then we do not need to go down the American route.

Lancashire Telegraph:

“A lot of people make dog carts but usually they are for the back legs.

“Surely there must be someone out in the area who can help us.

“There are all these 3D printers out there so we think somebody should do it for him.

“We need something that goes fast to keep us on our toes.”

Paula said Roo is a determined character who does not let his disability hold him back, bouncing around on two legs.

She said: “He has been to the vet and been checked over. Apart from his legs, there is nothing wrong with him.

“They can only put it down to a genetic disorder.

“He has little stumps for front legs but — as he can move his shoulders — there is a chance that he could be fitted with prosthetic legs and walk like any other dog.”
