Traffic chaos after wintry weather hits East Lancashire
10:23am Monday 5th December 2011 in Brierfield
By Neil Docking, Reporter
COMMUTERS have experienced long delays across East Lancashire this morning due to the wintry weather.
Slow and heavy traffic was reported on the M65 because of snow, with journeys taking an estimated 15 minutes longer than usual.
Drivers reported problems eastbound between Junction 10 at Padiham and Junction 12 at Brierfield, and said snow was also causing delays towards Nelson and Colne.
There were also delays in Pendle's towns and villages due to icy conditions on the roads.
Slow traffic and hazardous driving conditions because of ice caused tailbacks down Montague Street in Blackburn.
Hazardous driving conditions due to ice and snow also affected vehicles in Burnley Road, Bacup, and Chapel Lane in Ramsbottom, with motorists advised to approach these routes with care.

I have no idea about the conditions elsewhere in East Lancs, but ice causing issues on Montague Street? Unless this is a reference to the relatively short lived hail shower at around 8.30, what ice? The temperature was far enough above freezing by 6am for ice not to be an issue.....
