A COMMUNITY group wants £2,000 in a project to improve the safety and aesthetic of a park.
Green spaces development officer Kieron Roberts , on behalf of Neighbourhood Services in Fleet Street, Nelson, has asked Brierfield and Reedley Committee to provide them with a grant of £2,000 to remove the existing palisade fence that secured the old bothy area at Heyhead Park bowling green, on Park Lane, Brierfield.
The bothy was demolished a couple of years ago but the group has said there wasn’t enough money at the time to finish the whole project.
The neighbourhood group said there is no need to have fencing in this area now and they would take the fencing off site and store at Victoria Park Depot for future use elsewhere.
A spokesman said: "The area would be opened up and be made more accessible and aesthetically pleasing."
The park is used by residents as a shortcut for accessing various parts of the town as well as for events and recreational pursuits including the Local Spring Gala.
