YOUNGSTERS in Brierfield are looking to improve an area of the canal.
The Brierfield Youth Panel has adopted a section of the canal in the town and with the support of Pendle Council, Pick up for Pendle and the Canal and River Trust, are planning to make it more accessible to the community.
They want to put up bird boxes, hedgehog boxes, plant flowers and bulbs, install benches and generally improve the environment.
They also want to enlist the help of an artist to create benches and picnic table.
In a report youth worker Lynne Blackburn said: "It will be a pleasant and friendlier place to visit encouraging people to use the area more. This in turn will impact on emotional health and well being.
"In addition the volunteers will learn new skills."
The group is hoping to secure a £750 council grant for the project which will start this month.
