A MAN has been ordered to carry out unpaid work after being found guilty of assault.

Burnley Magistrates Court heard how Azhar Iqbal, 33, of Kings Causeway, Brierfield, assaulted Sehra Bano by beating her in Burnley on October 30.

The court heard on the same day he also assaulted Ubayd Bano by beating him in Burnley.

Magistrates were told that on or between October 12 and October 19, last year, Iqbal assaulted Sehra Bano by beating her.

Iqbal denied all the offences against him when he appeared before magistrates. But he was found guilty of committing three counts of assault after trial.

Magistrates ordered him to complete 120 hours unpaid work within the next 12 months.

Iqbal must also pay £200 prosecution costs and an £85 victim surcharge.

A court spokesman said: “No compensation was ordered because it is a domestic violence incident and would cause difficulty as it is the aggrieved who works.”

Iqbal must pay the cost and fines at a rate of £5-per-week, starting within 14 days of the sentencing hearing.

Victims of domestic abuse can call police on 101 or 999 in an emergency.
