SPORTS students at Nelson and Colne College are teaching sport to schoolchildren as part of their studies.

The second year BTEC students have been attending Blacko Primary School every Wednesday to coach the children sporting activities as part of their College course.

The students have planned, prepared and delivered these sessions with guidance from school staff.

Jonathan Bradley, a second year student, said: "Coaching has been great fun.

"I enjoy working with children and helping them to be active and healthy.

"I definitely want to be a teacher in the future."

Two first year students have also been approached by the school to coach additional athletics sessions.

Rebecca Robinson and Emily Frate were asked to assist with an athletics event, choosing competitors and then attending the event as coaches to support the pupils.

Rebecca said: "It's good to take the theory out of the classroom, you gain a lot from the experience."
