A benefits cheat who claimed cash from the public purse despite having money in the bank, is awaiting sentence.

Anne Vickers, 50, of Gisburn Road, Blacko, had dishonestly made a false claim to the Department for Work and Pensions.

Burnley Crown Court was told she had come into money after a bereavement.

The defendant admitted three allegations of dishonestly failing to promptly notify a change of circumstances, between May 2008 and April 2012.

Two involve the DWP and one relates to council tax benefit from Pendle Council.

Vickers’s case was adjourned to July 19 for a pre-sentence report and she was warned by Recorder Anthony Cross: “You are at risk of a custodial sentence.”
