Barrowford engineers building on success by buying rivals

BOSSES at an engineering company hope that a £1.2million takeover of a rival firm will allow them to build on their success.

Merc Engineering, the Barrowford-based precision engineering company, has acquired Bright Spark Precision Engineering, Nelson.

Merc's takeover was prompted by rapid growth over the last two years, which has seen the company's turnover increase by almost 50 per cent to £2.8million.

To keep pace with demand, Merc chiefs said it was vital to increase its production capacity and the acquisition provides the opportunity to do just that.

The deal comes as doubts continue to grow over the buoyancy of the UK economy, but finance experts believe there are still opportunities in East Lancashire for companies to expand.
