BARROWFORD Parish Council has taken over responsibility for an iconic building in the centre of the village.

Holmefield House was leased from Pendle Council by Housing Pendle until last November, before Housing Pendle moved this operation and its Colne Town Hall offices to Shackleton Hall.

The building is being renovated for use as a community centre and offices for Barrowford Parish Council.

Iain Lord, clerk to the parish council, said: “Now we’re in the building we’re assessing what needs to be done to operate it as energy efficiently as possible.

“There are also a number of jobs to be done on the building to bring it up to scratch structurally.

“We’ve already been approached by a number of groups and organisations that want to use the facilities – this is a very exciting time for the residents of Barrowford.

“If any other groups or organisations are interested, please get in touch with me on 01282 619738.”

Councillor Linda Crossley added: “As part of the sale agreement, the weekly Barrowford Luncheon Club will be moving from the Civic Hall to Holmefield House as soon as the large room downstairs and the kitchen are usable.

“And a number of Barrowford based Council meetings will be held at Holmefield House, particularly the monthly Area Committee meetings and the local Community Safety meetings.”

The parish council has taken over responsibility for the building and the grounds at the back of Holmefield House and the Holden Centre.

This green space is likely to be used for community activities during the summer months.
