New name for thatched roof Barrowford pub

A BARROWFORD pub famed for its traditional thatched roof is undergoing a major refurbishment.

The Thatch and Thistle, off Barrowford Road, has been closed until the end of the month while a section of the roof is replaced.

The original thatch roof was installed when the pub was built in 1996 but has been ravaged by the recent harsh winter.

Pub manager Andy Stirling said the pub is currently undergoing an internal refurbishment as well as the roof repairs and will soon have a new name.

He said: “To ensure the thatched roof stays in the best condition we are replacing a small section of it.

“Although it was built in 1996 the modern building has a traditional look, with the thatched roof and floral displays.

“The pub is currently closed for an exciting refurbishment and it will reopen on March 31 with a new lick of paint and rebranded as the Thatch and Thistle Hungry Horse.”

A new patio area will also be built in the beer garden whilst a fresh selection of cask ales will be available from the bar.

Andy added: “We look forward to welcoming customers old and new to the refurbished pub as soon as the work is complete.”

County Coun Mohammed Iqbal, a member of Pendle Council who represents the Bradley ward, has welcomed the improvements.

He said: “This is a landmark building on a major entrance to Nelson from the motorway.

“Any refurbishment is something we would welcome and support, it is a very popular pub in the community.

“It is good news that the roof is to be replaced with a thatch material as well.”

Why has Cllr Iqbal commented on this matter. It is not even in his ward. Mind you, he seems to pop up everywhere these days!

Why give it such a strange name?
I suggest 'The Arsonists Dream' would have been better.

What relevance has the name got for the pub and the land it's built on? Personally, I don't like the new name.

Hi everyone,if you go in this pub check out the ages of the bar staff,my husband applied for a job there having 30years experience isnt enough to get him a job, maybe the landlord and landlady were scared he was going to take their jobs,I bet they are all young with belts for skirts and tits on show,my husband is a hard worker but that counts for nothing these days when he rang to see if they had give him the job or not he was told no hed been unsuccessful when he asked why they wouldnt tell him enough said TOO OLD.
