Barrowford road closed following pile-up

A SIX-car pile up led to long tailbacks on one of Pendle’s main roads this morning.

Police said the cars collided when they struggled to stop after hitting black ice where Church Street meets Gisburn Road, in Barrowford.

The accident, which happened shortly before 9am caused tailbacks for motorists travelling along Gisburn Road towards Nelson.

Following the pile up, Church Street was closed but is set to be re-opened later this morning.

That could be down to the 25% reduction in gritting then, the stupid idiots probably cut the most important early morning round instead of one of the trips during the warmer day ?

Did none of the drivers listen to or warch the weather forecasts last night. They all warned of treacherous road conditions. If some folks brains were dynamite they would not have enough to blow their hats off!

I drove on this stretch of road this morning at around 8:50. It was EXTREMELY slippery and even travelling at around 5 mph I was surprised just how long it took to bring my car to a standstill.

Unfortunately for the people who live in the Wheatley Lane Road area of Barrowford and for parents delivering their children to St. Thomas's School, the other routes out were also in the same condition.

Salt would have prevented this situation. I thought the council were still treating bus routes? Obviously not.
