Hell's Kitchen star Jody Latham looking forward to challenge of own restaurant

HELL’S Kitchen star Jody Latham is determined to use his experience working under Michelin-starred chef Marco Pierre White to make his East Lancashire restaurant a success.

The Barrowford-born actor said he was “very excited” after the finishing touches were put to the dining area of Jacks Bar and Restaurant, which is now open in full.

According to the former Walton High School pupil he learnt a lot about how to run a successful restaurant from Marco.

But the Shameless star said he will be leaving the cooking to the professionals to guarantee sending out top quality ‘gastro pub’ food.

Jacks, in Gisburn Road, Barrowford, opened to drinkers in December while the dining area was still being prepared.

However it is now open for lunch and dinner.

Jody, who owns the establishment with childhood friend Simon Graham, said they decided to delay unveiling the restaurant as they wanted to make sure it was the best it could possibly be.

When the chance to be involved in this year’s Hell’s Kitchen ITV1 reality TV show arose he said he could not turn down the chance to learn from one of the best restaurateurs around.

He added: “One of the reasons we decided to open a restaurant was because we’ve always loved food.

“I didn’t have much time to make a decision on doing the show, but I spoke to my friends and family, and they thought it would be good idea.

“I don’t regret it at all and I’m really glad I did it because I learnt so much.

“I have a lot of respect for Marco and was really happy we connected.

“But I didn't just learn from Marco. Nick, the maitre d’hotel, and the sous chefs were also a massive influence.

“They showed me how I should conduct myself not just in business, but in life as well.”

Head chef is Joe Pickles, who has worked at the Black Lane Ends in Skipton Old Road, Colne, and the Devonshire Arms, in Skipton.

Jody said: “This is one of the best areas to open a restaurant because we’ve got fantastic produce on our doorstep.”
