MORE than 70 revellers were given a fright when a car smashed into the front of a village pub.
Margaret Wood, landlady at the George and Dragon, in Barrowford, said there were around 70 people inside the building when the silver Renault Clio became lodged in the front entrance at 11.20pm last night.
She said it was lucky no one was outside smoking at the time or they could have been badly hurt.
Firefighters said the Clio came over the Colne Road bridge, opposite the Gisburn Road pub, before hitting a taxi and crashing into the building.
They had to cut the Clio driver free before he was taken to the Royal Blackburn Hospital for minor cuts.
The taxi driver, who was in a Vauxhall Cavalier, was not hurt.
The road was closed for around an hour while the vehicles were cleared.
Mrs Wood said she heard a big bang, adding: “At first I thought someone had thrown a table through the window, then I saw the car at the front entrance.
“It’s lucky nobody was walking past or having a cigarette outside or it would have been terrible.
“There are some cracks inside the pub, so it’s obviously moved a bit, but it isn’t dangerous.”
Engineers are due to visit the pub tomorrow. It will remain open in the meantime.
