A MUM-OF-TWO who became the fastest ‘witch’ in the world to run a marathon will be appearing on a BBC quiz semi final show next month.

Nicola Nuttall, from Barrowford, will be pitting her wits against other contestants on Mastermind.

The 47-year-old, who runs Giddy Kippers Party and Play Centre in Nelson, eased through the heats in September with the life of Kirsty MacColl as her subject and will sit in the famous black chair with Tom Hanks films as her topic.

Mrs Nuttall made headlines last year when she became the fastest ‘witch’ to run the London Marathon in a time of three hours, 26 minutes and 13 seconds.

Mrs Nuttall, who runs with Trawden Athletic Club, said it was a great experience to go on the show.

She said: “It’s very scary actually, when you see the contestants on the chair they are sitting on the chair for the first time, you don’t get any time to get used to your surroundings.

“The room is pitch black apart from yourself and John Humphrys.

“You just have to try and relax and think about the questions.”

The quiz show involves four contestants given a set amount of time to answer as many questions as they can about their chosen topic and scores one point for a correct answer.

Each contestant will then attempt to answer as many questions as possible on general knowledge.

In 2016 Mrs Nuttall set the record for the fastest ‘witch’ to run a marathon but could not claim her Guinness World Record as her skirt was too short.

Mrs Nuttal said she was a big fan of Tom Hanks and had to spend lots of time researching into the films.

She said: “You have to think about what sort of questions could be asked, character lines, Oscar winners, actors etc.

“I know a lot of people always say they love ‘Forest Gump’ or Sully, but I really enjoy ‘Big’ and ‘A League of Their Own’, I think Tom was great in those films.

“My children cannot wait to watch me on the show and I think it will be really funny to see myself on television.

“It was such an amazing experience to be on the show and it’s something I’ll never forget.”
