FURRY friends have been striking 'pawsome' poses for a fundraising campaign.

Professional photographer Phil Hargreaves from Burnley has started a project to snap 60 dog breeds in 60 days to raise money for Pendle Dogs in Need.

The Nelson-based charity provides a home for rescue dogs from across East Lancashire and Mr Hargreaves has adopted a King Charles Cavalier Spaniel from there.

The 57-year-old, who runs his own studio in Barrowford, is charging dog owners £20 to have their pet photographed in the studio and with the scenery just outside, with all proceeds going to the charity.

He said: “I have always loved photographing dogs.

“All the different breeds have such a variety of features and despite what people think they do have lots of facial expressions.

“I think Pendle Dogs in Need does great work and when I thought about doing this I wanted to do it for a local charity.

“It takes in dogs that haven’t had good experiences and make sure they get a good life, giving them to people who do want to look after a dog and treat it well.

“I’ve had some funny experiences so far with one dog that just ran laps around my studio, plus there’s been a few accidents on the floor, but it’s all part of the experience.”

So far Mr Hargreaves, who has four King Charles Cavalier Spaniels, has got snaps of bulldogs, German shepherds, Jack Russells and dachshunds.

The dad-of-three and grandad-of-four started as a semi-professional photographer around six-years-ago but went on to be a full-time professional about a year ago.

He hopes to raise £1,200 by the end of April.

He said: “It started out as 30 dogs in 30 days but I was inundated with so much interest from people that I decided to extend it.

“People love having photographs of their dogs done and it’s really rewarding for me."
