A ZEBRA crossing is to be put on a ‘dangerous road’ outside a primary school.

Parents of children at Barrowford Primary School started a campaign for the crossing on the A682 because they believed traffic was putting their children at risk.

More than 100 people signed a petition, which was presented in the House of Commons by Pendle MP Andrew Stephenson, calling for action.

Lancashire County Council has now announced that a scheme has been identified for the Pendle 2014/15 Capital Programme to provide a crossing at the location.

Steve Browne, interim executive director for the environment at the council, said: “Local network management officers have given this scheme high priority.”

It is anticipated the scheme will be agreed at a meeting of the full council in February next year.

Mr Stephenson said that he was delighted the parents’ concerns had been heard.

He said: “I am really pleased that the county council seems to be supporting the wishes of local parents.

“I think these were very valid concerns and I will be chasing the county council up over the coming months to make sure they follow through with their plans.

“There is very little parking by Barrowford Primary School and most of the parents have to park either side of the main road.

“Parents and children are currently trying to cross the road at the start and the end of the day and it is a difficult place to cross.

“The road is very busy and there is lots of traffic.

“I am delighted it would appear that after all the campaigning, the county council is now listening to parents’ concerns.”
