A SPATE of graffiti in Barrowford has been labelled ‘mindless’ by an angry resident.

Several tags were sprayed on walls, in Lee Street, with slogans referring to Burnley’s Stoops Estate.

Pendle Council has pledged to clean up the affected walls once it has been given permission from the buildings’ owners.

Christopher Jowett, 23, noticed the vandalism on Monday morning, and imm- ediately reported it to the council.

Mr Jowett, of Gisburn Road, said: “I noticed graffiti had been sprayed on a house on the end of Lee Street, and later that day I noticed that further down Lee Street, on the Dysons Arts building, there was more graffiti.

“This is a nice area to live in, and not something you’d usually expect.

“I'd urge people in the local area to keep their eyes out for the perpetrators. It is so unfair that they go round ruining what is a nice area, and we should all do our bit to keep an eye out for the culprits.

“They aren’t welcome here spoiling our neighbourhood.”

A car is also believed to have been sprayed on Sunday evening, and the village’s neighbourhood pol- icing team has been informed.

Pendle Council automatically removes graffiti on residential property if it is racist, sexual or obscene.

Mr Jowett added: “I thought that, as this was not, it may fall to the property owners to have their properties cleaned up after these mindless acts of vand-alism.

“I am pleased, however, that the council will be approaching the property owners to obtain authorisation to remove the graffiti.”

A Pendle Council spokeswoman said: “We are aware of it and have visited the sites.

“When we get permission, we will clean it.”
