FIVE new homes could be built in Salterforth if councillors give the go ahead tonight.

Developers want to build four three-bedroom houses and a two-bedroom property at the site of the former Silentnight restau-rant in Earby Road.

The village's parish council and county highways officers have not objected to the scheme and Pendle Council planners have recomme-nded councillors grant planning permission.

However, two residents have opposed the applic-ation, saying vehicle access would be a problem and there is no need for more family housing.

Members will make a decision when they meet at the Baptist Church Centre, Barnoldswick, at 7pm.

The application was approved with a condition suggested by me that the developers pay for a 20mph zone in the village to improve road safety in the vicinity of the site.

The Salterforth residents at the meeting were pleased at the wider benefit this would bring to the village.
