A TEENAGER who got behind the wheel more than twice the limit in the early hours has paid the price with a 16-month ban.

Burnley magistrates heard how Joshua Red Leak,18, was stopped by police and gave a test showing 79 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 mililitres of breath - the legal limit is 35.

The defendant, of Park Avenue, Barnoldswick, admitted drink driving.

He was fined £300 and must pay £60 costs. He had no previous convictions.

The court was told Leak was stopped in a spot check in Colne because of the time of day.

He co-operated with officers both at the roadside and the police station.

John Nuttall, for Leak, said the defendant had been out in Burnley with friends for a drink and had not intended to drive home.

He went to a friend's, his friend's mother would not let them smoke inside and they went to sit in the vehicle.

It started to snow and his friend suggested if it continued it would be difficult for Leak to move his car in the morning, as it was on a steep hill.

He moved it to the back of the property.
