D-day for store plans after protests

CONTROVERSIAL plans for a supermarket will be put before Barnoldswick Town Council today.
Barnoldswick residents went to the polls last Thursday with nearly a quarter of the people voting against the plans for the store on the Carlson Filtration site at The Butts Votes for the proposals, which will have no effect on the outcome of the planning application, were 303 no and 91 yes, with one spoiled ballot paper.
Earlier this month developers submitted plans for a smaller store after Pendle Council said the 4,645 square metres store was too big.
Councillors on Barnoldswick's town council will make a decision over the store, which has been reduced to 3,575 square metres, at the town council meeting 7pm tonight.
The planned super-market will still have 278 parking spaces.
Some residents have said that the planned supermarket is not in the right location and that the roads are too narrow for lorries to travel down.
But developers Maple Grove said they intend to widen access via The Butts and alter delivery arrangements off Calf Hall Road
