Barnoldswick in Bloom group gears up for floral challenge

TWO initiatives are launched this week by the Barnoldswick in Bloom group to get the town ready for the competition.

Members aim to surpass their success last year, when they won Best Newcomer, by winning the trophy for the region’s best town this summer.

Group chairman Marjorie Adams said: “Barnoldswick in Bloom is for everybody. It’s about having a pride in the town and working together to make it better. This week, we’re launching the first Barnoldswick in Bloom ‘Best-in-Barlick’ competition to find the best kept gardens, streets, business premises and canal boats.

“At the same time, scores of local schoolchildren are helping us to complete new summer bedding schemes in town centre beds and we’re holding a community action day on Saturday where everyone can help brighten up Barnoldswick by helping to plant 4,000 bedding plants.

“The Bloom judging is on July 30 and we’re working hard to bring the town to a peak of perfection for when the judges visit.”

Saturday’s Community Action Day begins at 9am meeting at the Rainhall Centre.

Entry forms for the Best-in-Barlick competition will be available on the day and at the Council Shop and Library.

maybe we could get the council shop to enter the competition too? It would be nice to see some kind of a display in the window instead of the tired old faded display boards . Not exactly a good advertisement for our lovely town.
