THE final decision to move all production for bed makers Silentnight to Barnoldswick has been confirmed.

Bosses at the company said this week that plans announced last year to close down their site in Batley, West Yorkshire, would go ahead in April.

That will mean another 100 jobs will be created at the Barnoldswick site, which will become the firm’s headquarters.

About 200 employees at the Batley location will be made redundant, although many will be given the opportunity to relocate to Barnoldswick.

In a statement, Silentnight said the decision had been taken after a consultation period with employee and trade union representatives.

Adrian Fawcett, chairman of Silentnight, said: “The consequences of this decision on all our employees at Batley, many of whom have given many years of service to the group, is greatly regretted.”

The Barnoldswick site already employs around 650 people.
