the bus station was closed and the car park was supposed to be pulled down as this has happened many times, although the person would find somewhere else, so sad when it comes to this

The car park needs to be demolished to prevent this kind of thing happening again. My thoughts are with the man's family.

people will always find some way out when they've had enough.knocking down high buildings won't stop them.
we need an attitude shift, less witch hunts and a hell of a lot more compassion would help.
my thoughts are with this poor blokes family.

Oh dear. Once again there will be a cry for the council to make the place safer. It does not matter if they knocked it down, anyone wishing to take their own life would find a way.

No matter what you put in place to prevent this happening ,people in this position will find a way out, someone jumped off a Bridge near my home in Cardiff on thursday, Theres so much depression and worry for some who need help, I lived in Pendle for many years and the council never did anything about the old bus Station, They should demolish it , Never mind the Owners this is Nelson, Owners probably dont even know where Nelson is, And build a memorial for all those poor souls who took their lives there as a reminder to all, God Bless them,

It's not the fault of the council or the carpark owners - if someone kills themselves then it is down to them.

it's also down to circumstances that they can't deal with and a lack of help.

There should also be more humane alternatives for people to leave this mortal coil without having to resort to the barbaric and violent alternatives currently available. Jumping from buildings; in front of trains; from motorway bridges; hanging; slashing wrists; taking slow painful deaths from alcohol/drug cocktails; shotguns. All terrible ways to die that cause untold suffering to others as well as the suicide victim.

What,s it got to do with health & safety ? if somebody wants to top themselves then thats their perogative , no amount of bumbling bureaucrats is going to stop them , its down to personal choice !

As im the member of youth parliament for Pendle, i have already spoken to the chairman of Pendle Borough Council in hope that atleast measures can be in place. The idea of demolishing the building wouldnt work. As it is really big and i doubt the owners will agree. What can be done however, is safety measurements set in place. I was going to nelson around 5:00 but decided to get off at Colne. Luckily i didnt have to witness such an event. My condolences go to Family and Friends.

My thoughts are with you and your family Matt.

However if the owners are not prepared to invest, cant something be done like making use of the top floors by way of giving use of the 2nd to top floor to Samaritains as offices or something? Something symbolic to try and help others...

Nelson doesnt need so much parking.

If its demolished people will just find somewhere else, yet if its changed use and made impossible to reach the top floor it would be a better use in my opinion.

The owners would also probably be happier to do this if change of use for the upper floors was allowed and giving them a return on their investment.

Are you making a point or did you just want to tell everybody that you are a member of the youth parliament for Pendle ?

The last thing a person suffering from suicidal thoughts thinks off is the impact on passers by and even their family. Depression makes people think only of themselves. It is easy for people to judge others, but unless you have suffered depression or have a loved one suffering you really should keep your ill-informed opinions to yourself. R.I.P

The carpark has been a location for suicides far too long and it is time the council took steps to prevent further tragedies. Whilst agreeing people will find away to commit suicide it dosent stop the councils responsiblity to prevent loss of life wherever possible.

Once again the owners of this site have to ask themselves some serious moral if not legal questions.

Well said athlete.. We have such a long way to go in educating others about Mental Illness. Unfortunately only sufferers truly know how devastating a condition this is. RIP & Condolences to family & friends.

Maybe they should think about people passing by, people who maybe want to carry on living. I'm not suggesting this isn't tragic in anyway, it is without question but MFORT66 makes a valid point, you may not agree with him/her but how would you feel if he had landed on your child or wife/husband and killed them? Your opinion would be some what different I would suggest. So instead of telling people to keep their opinions to themselves why don't you try and look at the bigger picture and realise that it's not always about the person that decides to throw themselves off a car
park.

So if you're thinking along the lines of blame are Rail track supposed to search their conscious every time somebody launches themselves in front of a train or the makers of paracetamol to feel guilty every time somebody takes an overdose ?
Wake up and realise that people are responsible for their own actions and can't be wrapped up in cotton wool all their lives.

It's not a question of educating others about mental illness IRS a question of people accepting that individuals who unfortunately choose to end their lives in this manor are a significant danger to people in the vicinity just going about their business. It is horrific when people feel there is no other option available to then and that suicide is the only way out but why risk taking others with them? Perfect example in this case, he was struck by a passing car as he unfortunately lay in the road. Moments earlier the driver and or passengers of that car could also have been killed or seriously injured.

But this is the whole point..Somebody who is suicidal does not think logically. I Put my family through absolute hell a few years back and I consider myself to be a considerate and respectful person. Look at Gary Speed and countless others, who have succumbed to this terrible illness? You cant say people should be more thoughtful of putting others in danger!! The simple fact is, people who take their own lives are far past reasoning and logical thinking.

I think awareness & support is getting better, due to media coverage..Many people dont like to come forward and say they're suicidal because of the stigma that still surrounds it.

Just like to add..That the majority of people who take their own lives are not considered to be a danger to others..How many times do you hear " He/She, seemed "Normal" Relatively Happy? Early intervention is so important and I urge anybody feeling suicidal, to reach out and get the help they deserve..before they get past the point of logical thinking.
