A FAMILY-run firm from Barnoldswick has secured its future following the £650,000 capture of a landmark mill in a neighbouring town.
Harry Garlick, a TV and electronic appliance business, has completed a deal to buy the former Damart site, at Albion Mill, Earby.
The firm, which has seven shops in East Lancashire and Skipton, intends to use the 65,000 sq ft building as a warehouse.
Bosses said the purchase will allow the firm, which employs 63 people, to secure its future as it will move from a rented site to one it owns.
Director Ian Scothern said: “It’s very, very exciting. We’re delighted and we feel this will secure the future of our company.
“There is a heavy refurbishment schedule, but we’re aiming to have it ready by the middle of the summer.”
Damart, which is part of a home-shopping giant, was based in Earby for more than three decades.
The Victoria Road site housed the Damart printing and mail centre from 1975 until last year.
However, the mill had lain empty since the operation, including 52 members of staff, moved to Steeton, near Keighley, in July.
According to Mr Scothern, feedback from the local community since the purchase was announced has been positive.
He said: “There’s been quite a lot of interest.
“The people of Earby know our company well and they’ve been telling us they’re happy that the building will be full again.”
Albion Mill had beeen advertised for sale at around £650,000 by Bolton-based property agents, Eddisons.
