A FLOOD defence scheme in Barnoldswick has been welcomed by councillors after the signing of a legal agreement.
Developers of land off Ravenscroft Way have agreed to contribute towards the cost of vital improvements to drainage in the area.
Borough councillors Margaret Bell and David Whipp say the agreement is good news for residents at risk of flooding.
“In the past, this low-lying land has been like a lake during bad weather,” said Coun Bell.
“We’ve been working towards getting the drainage improved for some time.
“This agreement is a key part of the project.
“We made the funding a requirement when the developers got planning permission.”
Under the agreement, £40,000 is being paid to Pendle Council towards the cost of improving the underground section of Crow Nest Syke.
Coun Whipp said: “The culverted section of the Syke is a bottleneck that’s caused flooding.
"Houses on Edward Street have been affected when it has blocked in the past.”
Pendle Council’s West Craven Committee has agreed to contribute £10,000, and Lancashire County Council will also contribute.
