HUNDREDS of cancer survivors took part in a 24 hour walk to recognise their fight and for also beating cancer.

The 9th Relay for Life event, which is organised by the Petal Fundraising Group, are volunteers who work together to beat cancer sooner.

The event was opened by local MP Andrew Stephenson and Dr Liz Randell from Cancer Research UK as the survivors took their place for the opening lap at Thornton Hall Farm Country Park, Skipton.

Around 400 people also attended the Candle of Hope ceremony on the evening of the overnight event to celebrate life and to remember those lost to the disease.

Thee event also recognised the progress being made in treating cancer, providing hope to people who have been diagnosed with cancer.

The Petal Relay for Life event, on behalf of Cancer Research UK, was one of 40 events happening across the UK this summer and thousands more around the world.
