A FOUR-year-old boy showed his dad who is boss after beating him to be crowned champion at a young farmers' show.

Kieran Robinson, from Barnoldswick, scooped the supreme champion title for the second year running at the Skipton Auction Mart's annual young handlers' prime lamb show and sale on Monday.

The youngster, who is due to start at Barnoldswick Primary School in September, claimed the red rosette in the under 10 category.

Dad Scott, 26, also came top of the 17 to 26 show class.

The pair then went on to compete against each other alongside the winner of the 10 to 16 age category with Kieran coming out on top and Scott reserve supreme champion.

Judges were impressed with Kieran's immaculate turnout and the control he exercised over his three quarters Beltex lamb.

The Robinson family farm 140 ewes from a smallholding in Brogden Lane, Barnoldswick.

Dad Scott, who also works as a plumber, said there was no bad feeling between father and son insisting 'the best man won'.

He said: "It is about the attitude, how they handle the lamb and the presentation.

"It is the second time he has won. He's a real champion.

"It is good to see young ones coming through.

"They are the next generation so it is really good for them because it keeps them interested.

"We have 140 ewes and Kieran helps out when he wants to.

"My partner Laura has been training him.

"It requires discipline, concentration and making sure he shows the lamb who is boss.

"We hope he will grow up loving it and will hopefully carry on.

"It is all he's known. He's grown up around sheep and tractors."

The annual showcase in Skipton aims to provide an opportunity for farming’s future generations to gain valuable experience in the show arena.

There were 23 competitors across all three show classes which were judged by Giggleswick’s Alison North.

The family's stock, which include Beltex and Texel-cross breeding ewes, also wowed judges at the Great Yorkshire Show last weekend scooping first, second, fourth, fifth and sixth prize in five different categories.

Mum Laura has also won the supreme championship twice.

Kieran is also hoping to continue his winning streak this weekend at the Rathmell Young Farmers' Show in North Yorkshire.

The show was supported by Pearson Farm Supplies, Wynnstay and CCM Auctions.
