A TEENAGER seen riding his moped on a busy main road with a teenager and child on the back has been given a final warning by police.

A second teenager, who witnesses reported seeing driving his car at speed through a park, has also been issued with the same warning for “using a vehicle in an anti-social, careless or inconsiderate manner”.

Police said both teenagers were dealt with for anti-social and dangerous driving in Earby and Barnoldswick, after complaints from the public.

The warning means if they commit any further offences in the next 12 months they will have their vehicles seized.

The warning also applies to the vehicles, meaning they will be seized if anyone is seen committing motoring offences using them.

PC Nigel Keates said police had received numerous complaints about a red motorcycle being seen ridden dangerously with people on the back in Victoria Road. Both the rider and the passenger were seen to not be wearing helmets.

PC Keates said a 16-year-old on a red Honda Vista was stopped in Earby on Wednesday in connection with the incidents and given a final warning.

On the same evening an 18-year-old was stopped in Barnoldswick and given the same advice.

PC Keates said that was in relation to complaints from the public of a red Ford Fiesta being driven through Victory Park in Barnoldswick anti-socially and at inappropriate speeds on a pathway shared with pedestrians.

There were also complaints about litter being thrown from the car and teenagers hanging around it.

PC Keates said: “This behaviour was anti-social, dangerous and could have caused serious injury. This is something we take extremely seriously because it could have resulted in a fatality.

“The idea is to educate people and encourage them to change their behaviour and standard of driving.

“We will continue to monitor the situation and if nothing changes more drastic action will be taken.

“The action we have taken should act as a warning to others to drive responsibly or you will lose your licence.

“We have sent out a clear message that if you act in this manner there will be clear consequences.”

Anyone who witnesses anti-social or dangerous driving is asked to call 101.
