Clampdown on vehicles for sale at Pendle roadside

PENDLE Council leader Joe Cooney has welcomed action on vehicles for sale on the area’s roads.

Thirteen warning notices have been issued across the borough in recent weeks.

Coun Cooney said: “I raised this nuisance with officers last year and since then I have continued to work hard to get this matter dealt with.

“I’m pleased that we are taking action and it is having the desired effect. Vehicles for sale on the highway can be a real issue for local residents.

“And as proven with the inspections, some of them don’t meet the minimum requirements to be on the road.”

Pendle Borough Council officers will continue to monitor the situation in coming months.

Anyone wishing to report a vehicle to the council should call 01282 661999.

This is obviously flavour of themonth amongst the Councils!!!
.
For clarity would someone confirm whether it is illegal for an individual to advertise their car for sale on the roadside or whether this action is being taken against "traders" who are selling multiple cars?

This is from Pendle Council's Website.
The sale of motor vehicles from the public highway is an improper use of the highway entitling Pendle Council, Lancashire County Council or Lancashire Constabulary to take action to have the vehicles removed or the current owners prosecuted.

This is not intended to target a resident trying to sell their old car whilst it is parked outside their house, But to address the increasing problem of hot spot areas where numerous cars are regularly being offered for sale at the side of the road.

As I understand it, it is not illegal to sell your car at the road side but driving around with for sale signs in the car, increasing your blind spots is kind of dumb. That said, it is about time the councils took action against these unregistered traders who pay no tax on the profits they make from the sale of multiple cars.
