Leaky Colne swimming pool closed

LEISURE bosses have pledged to reopen a swimming pool ‘as soon as possible’ after emergency work to fix a leak was carried out.

The 25-metre pool at Pendle Leisure Centre, in Colne, had to be closed last Thursday after staff noticed water was leaking.

Bosses at Pendle Leisure Trust, which operates the pool, said emergency work to repair the leak had been undertaken at the weekend.

The pool had to be drained last week as part of an investigation to pinpoint where the leak was coming from.

Today, a sign had been put up at the centre to tell people the pool would be closed for around two weeks.

But bosses said they hoped the closure would not last that long and that they hoped it would be reopened ‘within the next few days’.

A Pendle Leisure Trust spokesman said: “We suspected there was a leak, but nothing major.

"We had to do something, because if it was left it could have developed into something more serious.

“The pool has been emptied and tests are currently being carried out.

“Obviously we want to get the problem rectified as soon as possible and then we can reopen the pool to the public.”

According to Pendle Leisure Trust, they chose to carry out the repair work over the weekend of the Great British Rhythm and Blues Festival because the centre is normally quieter than usual during the annual event, so disruption would be minimised.

The gym and learner pool remained open all weekend while the work was carried out.

All of the facilities at the centre, except the main pool, are operating as normal.

The spokesman said: “We apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused for leisure centre users.”
