WORK on a £3.6million scheme to help create a new primary school and continue the regeneration of a Nelson estate, has been approved.
Councillors agreed to enter into an agreement with development partner, PEARL2 to refurbish homes in Whitefield’s Albert Street, Mosley Street, Every Street, Portland Street and Macleod Street.
Back alleys between Mosley Street, Every Street and Stanley Street will also be revamped as part of the Regenerate Pennine Lancashire and Homes and Community Agency project.
Residents in Macleod Street and Portland Street will be given first refusal on upgraded properties in Stanley Street.
This will enable properties to be more easily assembled for the construction of the new primary school.
Coun Asjad Mahmood said: “It is wonderful that the two blocks in Stanley Street are now near completion.
“This work will improve the image and will have a major impact on people as they come through the centre of Nelson.”
