PENDLE gardeners are being urged to renew or sign up to the green bin garden waste scheme in a bid to recycle more.

Carole Taylor, Pendle Council's waste and recycling co-ordinator said: "Spring has sprung and summer is just around the corner, so we're contacting everyone on our green bin garden waste scheme asking them to renew.

"Our service still costs less than 60p a week - £30 for a year and people who sign up by June 15 will get the full twelve months."

Pendle gardeners who are on the green bin collection scheme should have their renewal letters by the middle of May and gardeners have until June 15 to pay.

Keen gardener Alice Mann said: "We love being out in the garden and it makes our life a lot easier having the green bin as there's always lots of weeding and clearing to do.

"There are thousands of people in Pendle who love to garden are keen for us to recycle their garden waste.

"From almost 8000 subscribers last year we collected around 2,700 tonnes of garden waste which was recycled into compost.

"The scheme is environmentally friendly as well as convenient."
