A DRUG user who was given a second chance after being found in possession of heroin breached his community order by failing to turn up to do unpaid work.

Ghilman Fazil, 23, was given the 12-month community order in April 2017 after he was caught by police in possession of heroin in Accrington.

And as part of that he was ordered by a Judge at Burnley Crown Court to complete 150 hours unpaid work and a 15 day rehabilitation activity requirement.

Prosecutor Richard Bennett said: “The breach related to a failure to attend unpaid work on January 2 and January 20. This is a second breach. The first being at the latter end of last year.

“The defendant has knuckled down and I have spoken to the probation service this morning who say he has been regularly attending. He has 12 and a half hours left.”

Fazil, of Camden Street, Nelson, pleaded guilty to breaching a community order.

Defending, Mark Stuart: “The defendant has had some difficulties because all be it he has got a brother and sister both of them are away. He is the sole carer of his mother who has a whole myriad of medical conditions. He knows this is the priority.”

Judge Simon Medland QC ordered Fazil to complete another 30 hours of unpaid work but did not order him to pay costs as he is currently receiving unemployment benefits.
