POLICE have issued a warning following a spike in vehicle thefts.

Several vehicles were broken into and attempted to be stolen in West Craven over the weekend.

There were also two vehicles stolen in the West Craven area including Barnoldswick, Earby, Sough and Kelbrook.

In most cases the vehicles were left insecure or the keys to the vehicles were left in an easily accessible place within the house, officers said.

A police spokesman from West Craven neighbourhood's police team said: "Please ensure that when you leave your vehicle nothing is left on display, particularly electronic equipment, sat navs and that your vehicle is locked.

"If you see anybody acting suspiciously, without putting yourself in any danger, please attempt to obtain descriptions, registration numbers, direction of travel and dial 999.

"Some of the crimes committed this weekend were entirely preventable, please don't make it easy for these criminals, secure your property and remain vigilant."
