A PROGRESS update on a project to develop a railway link from Skipton to Colne will take place today.

The Skipton and East Lancs Rail Action Partnership (SELRAP) group will meet at the Earby Community Centre and have invited all its members and the public to observe the meeting.

Last year Lord Callanan, the transport minister at the time, hinted re-opening the railway line between Colne and Skipton was on the agenda after responding in the House of Lords to an appeal by Pendle Peer Tony Greaves for the government to actively back the campaign to extend the East Lancashire line across the Pennines.

The East Lancashire line originally linked Skipton and Bradford, but was closed in 1970.

A SELRAP spokesman said: "We look forward to seeing as many members as possible and members of the public are welcome."

The meeting will take place at 7pm.
